Lise Winne and the Spirites Consort “Wing’d with Hopes” CD

$18.00

This album from Lise Winne is the result of her love for music of the Renaissance period (ca. 1400–1600). She had a vision to take these early songs, many of them from composer-lutenist John Dowland (1562–1626), and give some of them a revised “New Age” coloring. Jeff Belding contributed two instrumentals.

Description

This album from Lise Winne is the result of her love for music of the Renaissance period (ca. 1400–1600). She had a vision to take these early songs, many of them from composer-lutenist John Dowland (1562–1626), and give some of them a revised “New Age” coloring. The addition of a 5-string banjo on Dowland’s “What if I Never Speed” is an example of such an “update.” Though the instrumentation may be different, the sentiment of the music and the poetry of the lyrics still shine through!

Other pieces appear in their original form such as Dowland’s “If My Complaints” and Thomas Ford’s “Since First I Saw Your Face.”  Jeff Belding contributed two period lute instrumentals, “Fortune” (John Dowland) and Hupff Auff (Hans Neusidler, 1508–1563).

The listening experience is like a dream from out of a time in ancient English history. It can conjure up visions of massive castle ramparts, vengeful kings, ladies in waiting, and ancient “dance parties.” So put on your headphones and create your own renaissance dreamscape through this 400-year-old music that remains timeless to this day!
