Mozart! I think anyone who plays music, or listens to music, or even doesn’t care that much for music knows that name.
I have a suggestion for anyone out there in “Listening Land.” Take the time (about 12 minutes) to listen to Mozart’s Symphony #1 (composed 1764) – here’s one from YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eka8yscjE3g He wrote it when he was 8 years old, and I think it’s AMAZING!
Now I know that some of you think classical symphonies are too boring or that you might be “too cool” to listen to a dumb symphony. But I’m telling you, you’re really missing out if you don’t bother to give this one a quick listen. As I said, it will only take 12 minutes of your time.
It’s written in 3 movements (basically ” #1 fast – #2 slow – #3 fast”), but if that 12 minutes sounds too long, just listen to the first movement – It will put you in a great mood! You’ll be humming the opening all day long!
Then, if you like what you hear, try skipping to Mozart’s Symphony #40. Again, if it seems too long, then just listen to the first movement. I think many of you may realize that you’ve heard the opening of #40 “somewhere before.”
Mozart wrote 41 symphonies altogether (Haydn kicked his butt though, and wrote 107!!!).
I think Mozart’s symphony #1 is a good venue for giving classical music “a try.” If you think about it, classical music is all over the place in many of the films we’ve seen over the years. One of my favorites is a “Rocket Scene” from “The Right Stuff.” While a rocket is “blasting off”, you hear (British composer) Gustav Holst’s piece, “Mars, Bringer of War” from his composition, “The Planets” (composed ca. 1916).
And so, I’m ” just sayin’ ” give classical music a chance. If you hear something in passing that you dig, try to find out what it is and who wrote it. Then Google it and listen to the “whole thing.” It can only make your life better. So, let me know what you’ve been listening to. Maybe you can suggest some music that I haven’t heard. Go ahead, put on your headphones and chill on some Mozart, dudes. And don’t forget, it makes you smarter too!
