My end of June 2019 blog post is a video lesson for guitar of the song “Soldier’s Joy.” It is played in the key of C and is a perfect companion piece for the Soldier’s Joy banjo tab I offered back in April. It is geared for the later beginner player.
The lesson is posted on my YouTube channel and begins by walking you through the chords for the A and B parts of the tune. You will need a working knowledge of your basic C, F, and G chords.
Then, an easy solo is presented in simple quarter notes and eighth notes. If you have already learned some simple melodies to folk songs on your guitar, then learning this solo may be a good next step in your learning process. It may be possible for you to get the tune “by ear,” but if there is any confusion, you can purchase the guitar music and tab from my store for $2.00.
Soldier’s Joy is a great tune and would make an excellent addition to your repertoire especially if you can find a banjo player (or any instrument for that matter) to play it with. I’ll be posting a video of guitar and banjo playing it together soon!
